Pea season drilling update May 2016

A combination of factors, such as the cold wet weather, cold nights, low night time temperatures and slowly developing crops, are making for a potentially tough year.

A better story Further North where the weather has been cold but not as wet, so there are reports of good seed beds but low temperatures are holding back the crop everywhere.

“No reports of major crop issues but some pea and bean weevil spotted munching away.  Lack of crop progress is a concern and a cautious approach seemed to be the message from everyone at present.”

From Scotland down to East Anglia, these reports range from 28% to 50% through drilling from people in the industry.

Belgium is also struggling. They are through 54% of their drilling and not seeing much development.

With the sun and rain combination with improved night time temperature, we are expecting improvement.
